Boston Reentry Collaborative
A Network of Churches Serving Those affected by Incarceration
"Remember the prisoners as if you were with them in prison,
and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were suffering.”
—Hebrews 13:3
With more than 1.8 million men and women in prison, the United States imprisons more of its citizens than any other nation.
While more than 600,000 Americans are released from correctional facilities annually, two-thirds are rearrested within three years.
The cycle of crime and incarceration produces broken relationships, despair, and financial insecurity among families and communities.
Our system isn’t working.
Massachusetts currently houses approximately 13,000 men and women in 15 state institutions and 19 county facilities.
90% of every one who is incarcerated will be released and over 2000 return to the Boston area every year.
Tens of thousands of individuals with felony records live within the I-95 corridor.
They face enormous legal and social challenges as they seek to find housing, employment and a supportive Christian community.
Before God, we have a sacred responsibility to help them.
"I was in prison and you visited me."
